Our lab focuses on developing new therapeutic approaches for hemorrhaging, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, glaucoma, and retinal degeneration

We combine tissue engineering approaches, polymer synthesis and processing, stem cell biology, and drug delivery to develop new approaches to study and treat injuries to and diseases of the central nervous system. We build three dimensional tissue models that give us insight into the healthy and diseased nervous system, and then use these insights to develop new approaches to treatment.

Current Research projects include:

  1. Fabricating polymers to stop bleeding after injury

  2. Engineering angiogenesis after spinal cord injury

  3. Modifying the environment after optic nerve injury to promote repair

  4. Engineering a 3D model of the retina

  5. Sustained delivery of timolol maleate for glaucoma

  6. Building three dimensional models of the neural stem cell niche
